Music P.E.I. doled out honours Thursday night in six categories as the second day of P.E.I. Music Week wrapped up with Songs and Stories, an evening of music by some of P.E.I.'s best songwriters presented at The Mack by the Songwriters Association of Canada.
Singer-songwriter Catherine MacLellan, who also performed Thursday night, came away a double winner, receiving the nod for folk recording of the year for Water in the Ground and songwriter of the year for Take A Break.
Haunted Hearts walked away with the award for new artist of the year.
Visual artist of the year honours went to Ryan Hutchinson.
The award for educator of the year went to Todd MacLean.
The Bootleggers Ball was named event of the year.
In addition to MacLellan, Thursday night's show, hosted by LeE HARVeY OsMOND, otherwise known as Tom Wilson, featured performances by Dennis Ellsworth, Liam Corcoran and Alec O'Hanley, Teresa Doyle, Tim Chaisson and special guest Meaghan Blanchard, 2009 Music P.E.I. songwriter of the year.
Day three of P.E.I. Music Week gets underway at 4 p.m. today with a workshop at The Loft with Will Strickland, president of the Urban Music Association of Canada (UMAC).
Plan Your Work So You Can Work Your Plan is the theme of the workshop, which is presented by UMAC. That workshop is free for Music P.E.I. members and $25 for non-members.
Tonight the music is everywhere.
Seven downtown venues are presenting live music under the umbrella of an OLS-sponsored event billed as Friday Night Live! The venues include the Solid Rock CafÉ, Olde Dublin Pub, Baba's Lounge, Fishbones, Globe World Flavours, Hunter's Ale House, and The Old Triangle.
