Music P.E.I. kicked off four days of live music, workshop sessions and industry-related gatherings Wednesday night with the presentation of six awards during the Music Mosaic performance at The Mack.
Awards were presented in four music categories and two industry categories.
Vishten earned honours for francophone recording of the year for Vishten Live.
The Dogs Will Hunt walked away with the award for urban recording of the year for Ship to China.
The late Scott MacAulay was honoured posthumously with the roots traditional recording of the year for Great Scott!
Teresa Doyle received the nod for jazz recording of the year for Late Night Parlour.
In the industry categories, Harmony House Theatre, located in Hunter River, received the award for venue of the year. That venue, a former church, was developed by Kris and Melanie Taylor.
Jon Matthews' Big Grey Sound Studio in Charlottetown received studio of the year honours.
Wednesday night's awards presentations were incorporated into a diverse evening of musical performances featuring Native Gumbo, Scott Parsons, Vishten and Mario Robichaud and Meaghan Blanchard.
The musical comedy duo of Chuck and Albert served as emcees for the show.
Music P.E.I. Week activities, which culminate with the gala awards show Saturday night at Confederation Centre, continue today with a Songwriters Association of Canada songwriters' workshop at the Nightcap hosted by LeE HARVeY OsMOND, otherwise known as Tom Wilson.
That workshop, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is free for Music P.E.I. members and $25 for non-members.
The day continues with Songs & Stories at The Mack at 8 p.m.
Presented by the Songwriters Association of Canada, that show will feature performances by Catherine MacLellan, Dennis Ellsworth, Liam Corcoran and Alec O'Hanley, Teresa Doyle, Tim Chaisson and special guest Meaghan Blanchard, 2009 Music P.E.I. songwriter of the year.
A second round of award presentations is slated for tonight as well.
The awards to be presented tonight include those for folk recording, educator, event, new artist, songwriter and visual artist of the year.
Tickets for that show are $15.

Native Gumbo was truly amazing. The standing ovation was well deserved. In case you haven't seen them they are putting on a FREE concert this Sunday 3pm at the Guild. It's not to be missed!
