The 57th Crapaud Exhibition is July 31 at the exhibition grounds.
Other activities include the 19th annual exhibition concert July 29 when the Crapaud Exhibition, together with the Borden-Carleton Consolidated Credit Union and 95.1 CFCY, present Hal Bruce in concert, performing classic hits from the 1960s and ’70s. The comedy of Fred and Floss will open the show with lots of laughs.
The doors open at 7 p.m. at the South Shore Actiplex. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door and can be purchased in advance at the South Shore Pharmacy, Harvey’s Store, Anna’s Country Kitchen, the Red Rooster, the Consolidated Credit Union, the North River Petro Canada, the Lotto Booth in the Confederation Court Mall and Waugh’s Quick Mart in Summerside.
The annual Crapaud parade is July 30, 6:30 p.m. This year’s theme is movie memories. To enter, call Tami Bain at 658-2701 or Robin Harvey at 658-2683.
The annual blueberry pie competition is offering prizes from $20 to $50. Berries are supplied by Wyman’s Wild Blueberries. Pie plates are supplied by Harvey’s Store in Crapaud where the blueberries will also be available. The pies must be submitted by 10 a.m. on July 31. Call Kim Matters at 658-2317.
The qualifying competition for the potato peeling world-breaking challenge, which is to be held in Victoria on Sept. 10, will be part of this year’s events. Call Catherine at 658-2026 to enter.
Hot air balloon rides are also new to the exhibition. Two hot air balloonists from Ottawa and one from Hunter River will be on hand. The cost will be $20 for a tethered ride and $200 for an hour-long flight.
Events begin Friday with a hot air balloon flight between 7 and 8 a.m. Entries for the domestic science division are from 9 a.m. to noon, with 4-H entries from 10 a.m.-noon, the parade at 6:30 p.m., and the hot air balloon burn and flight at sunset.
Events begin on Saturday at 7-8 a.m. with hot air balloon flight. Gates open at 8 a.m., with activities continuing all day, including the G&G carnival rides, competitions, entertainment, displays, children’s programs and much more.
The Bonshaw monthly ceilidh is July 25, 7-9 p.m. Regular performers welcome Theresa Bernard, Doug Green, Sue Pitre and the group Country Folks. Admission by donation. This month’s proceeds going to the Hospice Palliative Care Association of P.E.I.
A memorial service is at the Canoe Cove Presbyterian Church on July 25. Guest soloist is Sylvia Mutch.
The annual Clan MacPhail gathering begins today at 7 p.m. at the Charlottetown Driving Park, with a Clan MacPhail Pace. The church service and picnic are at the Argyle Shore Provincial Park on July 25 at 2 p.m.
If there is inclement weather it will be held at the community centre in Argyle Shore. Copies of the history of Argyle Shore will be available. Everyone is welcome.
The Thursday night shindigs are each Thursday at the rec hall, Marco Polo Land Campground, Cavendish, 7:30-9 p.m. Entertainment will be by One Accord with Ed and Linda Doiron, Brian Knox and Hertz Godkin, as well as other guest performers. Admission is adults, $8 and $20 per family.
The Kelly’s Cross tea is today, starting at 3 p.m.
